We had a couple of giant ones when we lived in Manhattan, but thankfully we only ever saw half of them. Our cats found them to be great sport. We never found the other halves, but we avoided kissing our cats on the lips for at least a week therafter.

Some questions:
Are they dying because you've used some kind of chemical in the walls that leaves a few dead each morning? Or it is a total mystery what has killed them? Do you occasionally fumigate, like on a schedule, or just wait until there seems to be a bigger problem than usual? Do you see them running around in the daytime, or usually just at night?

As you can see, I haven't yet lived in a tropical location. I'm still a bit horrified by roaches. Snakes? No problem. But cockroaches are a whole other story. Uck.
