Dear Lori,

I figure if we unscrew our head and just pour the mini-bar directly in, all will be tolerable. I will think of you. The health challenges you've managed are amazing. Vomit on the plane is cute, isn't it? My daughter did that to me on the last flight while I held Addison. She filled an plastic shopping bag. (check out the vomit story called "Where Notes of Liquid Utter")

At least Canada and MN are nice this time of year!

thanks for reading, Susan

Thanks so much for your blog today. It was very timely for us.
We are traveling to Canada next month and are dreading the flight.

For starters, we wil be "that" family....... the one traveling with 3 children under the age of 5. Our daughters are 5, 4 and 15 months. Managing airline travel with small children, particularly when they outnumber you, is no small feat! We should all get medals for bravery.

Our 4-year old daughter with Down syndrome was born with esophageal atresia, which was surgically corrected at birth (unlike the infamous parents of "Baby Doe"). She does okay with her pediasure, but like your son can't eat anything on the plane. Thanks for the tip about the physician note!

Add in sensory issues which led her to scream in fear during our last international flight until she vomited on me and passed out (did I mention that she broke her leg and was also flying back in pain!?), and we're going to need all our reserves of humor to get through the gates and the flight!

Either that or the reinstitution of the mini-bar for us parents.

Best of luck to both of us!!!

I just flew a month ago with Continental. I used the "special needs card" to secure the bulkhead seats at no extra charge. They are intended for people with disabilities and my autistic son qualifies, so you should too. It is so nice to be seated directly behind first class because you are off and on first, close to the bathroom, get extra legroom/playroom for the kids. We als take a Britax carseat that fits much better here, in other aisles he will kick the seat because he is so close. Thought I'd mention it, because they were all great about it at Continental through two different airports. Have a great trip. I have family over in Brainerd, and spent many summers at grandmas house on Round Lake. Summer fun! :)
